January 8, 1956 - July 15, 2021

Floyd left this earth much too soon. Our collaboration on "Where's Rodney"  was phenomenal. l will always treasure his creative mind and his vision which brought beautiful and curious Black characters to life in books for children who need to see them. Floyd Cooper received the Coretta Scott King Award for his illustrations in The Blacker the Berry and three Coretta Scott King Honors for his illustrations in Brown Honey in Broomwheat Tea, I Have Heard of a Land, and Meet Danitra Brown. He lived in Easton, Pennsylvania, with his growing family: Velma, Kai, Dayton, Melissa, and grandsons, Niko and Noah.  The industry lost a brilliant man, illustrator, and soul. We all lost a friend and one of our better angels.
